Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV)

HEAV is a member-supported, statewide, nonprofit homeschool association that operates from a biblical worldview. HEAV serves all homeschoolers and since 1983 has worked tirelessly to promote and protect homeschool interests in Virginia through information, legislation, and resources. We offer an extensive website, an annual convention w/Used Curriculum Sale, seminars, and resources.
With a full-time office staff and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, we're ready to answer questions, offer support, and serve your needs. Office hours M-F from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Description: Statewide organization providing information, resources, and representation at the state legislature. Through our Web site and Central Office, you can access more than 175 local homeschool support groups. Some charge a fee to join; most don't.

Requirements: No requirements. We serve everyone.

American Thunder is an A.A.U. girls fast pitch softball club, established as a homechool varsity softball team in the Suffolk VA area. The coaches and parents of American Thunder support a Christian and A.A.U. philosophy, which encourages each athlete to recognize and embrace the value of good citizenship, team play, and sportsmanship while further developing their softball skills.

Description: American Thunder is an A.A.U. girls fast pitch softball club. This club is established as a Home school Varsity softball team in the Suffolk Va. area. We have players representing the various areas of Suffolk and adjacent communities. This team has been formed to provide an environment that will allow each girl to improve their softball skills from the fundamentals to the advanced levels.

The Coaches and parents of the American Thunder, support a Christian and A.A.U. philosophy, which encourages each athlete to recognize and embrace the value of Good citizenship, team play and sportsmanship while further developing their softball skills.

Requirements: Min age 13 max age 19 Grades 8th-12th

Blue Ridge Area Network for Congenial Homeschoolers (BRANCH)

Description: We are an all inclusive group! We are neither religious or non! Our group is made up of a variety of families who have their children's best interests at heart. Our primary focus is home schooling and offering support to one another along the way. We have children of all ages.

Chesapeake Support Group

Description: We attempt to help families get started, paperwork, community resources, testing etc. We do not have regular meetings or play groups. Most communication is via email or phone. We will visit or meet in convenient locations to help wade the paperwork if needed. We also offer help in computer software selection specific to homeschooling, purchase of computer hardware/software for family or business use.
Requirements: We will help anyone interested in home schooling.

Chesterfield Homeschooler: Lighting A Fire at Home (CHLAFH)

Description: Currently we provide monthly support group meetings featuring our monthly book-swap, a monthly newsletter with articles providing information on all areas associated with the homeschooling lifestyle. Our group supports a weekly homeschool cooperative providing academic and enrichment classes for all ages (infant to high school). Currently we have volunteer organized field trips running about twice a month. We are an eclectic blend of homeschoolers and welcome you to check us out.

Requirements: Our group has no core requirements with the understanding that the group is as good as what we put into it. Currently volunteers coordinate our homeschool co-op, field trips, newsletter, etc.

Benefits: Right now members have the opportunity to receive our newsletter, participate in our

Description: Networking in Louisa is a place to find and communicate with other homeschoolers in and around Louisa County for advice, friendship, shared field trips, etc.

Northern Virginia Community of Home-educators Inspiring Learning and Development (NoVaChild)

An all-inclusive group of home educators from Northern Virginia. We meet every Tuesday with one Tuesday per month reserved for a field trip away from the classroom. Each month we will focus on one subject area incorporating several fields of study including service to others.

Description: "Learning and Serving" - Northern Virginia Community of Home-educators Inspiring Learning and Development (NoVaChild) is a co-op in Vienna, VA focusing on monthly unit studies which includes twice a month in-class meetings; one field trip and one community service. We are an all-inclusive group of Home Educators that meets on Tuesdays at Vienna Presbyterian Church from 9am until 12. Some of our field trips include: apple picking with guided orchard tour, wagon ride and petting zoo; tour of the Vienna Arts Society and guest speakers from the Red Cross and Peace Corp. A few examples of our upcoming community service projects include: baking an "apple" dessert and delivering it to Sunrise Assisted Living; Lunch for Habitat Humanity (includes tour of building site); and decorating boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

REACH Homeschool Group

We are a large support group that participates in many activities,

Description: Welcome to the REACH Homeschool Group. REACH is Christian led but is open to all regardless of religion, race or politics. REACH's  goal is to offer meaningful and educational opportunities for all  homeschoolers in the Virginia area. We are a very active group that  participates in many fieldtrips and workshops for children of all ages.  REACH has a subscription fee of $25.00 per family per calendar year. REACH  runs from Aug to June of each year. Our newsletter is sent via email the  first of each month and is usually 18 emails long. The subscription fee  includes the monthly newsletter and all of the REACH emails through this  loop.

Benefits: Right at Home is a support group in Western Loudoun County, Virginia, that hubs around a newsletter which serves to connect home schoolers for field trips, classes, soccer, Moms' Night Out, Park Days, etc.

Roanoke Valley Association of Christian Home Schools

We are a Christian homeschool group located at Lake Gaston between NC and VA. We have various weekly activites and several field trips a year. We also offer CAT Testing in April, and workshops and playdates. We have a membership fee of $15 per year with a membership form and statement of faith.

Description: We meet at least once a month. We have activities that cover a broad range of ages. We do workshops, field trips, and various things. We offer the Achievement Test in April for those who need to take it. The cost varies each year but is very reasonable. We meet in both Roanoke Rapids and Littleton. We have members from Virginia and North Caroling since we are so close to the border.

Requirements: Dues is $15 for new members and those who sign up early. We have statement of faith to be signed and a waiver of liability for injuries. There is no mandatory attendance.

Benefits: We send out a newsletter bimonthly during school. We have planned field trips and outings, we also have a workshop we do. We also have a library with various things that can be checked out. We also offer an achievement test in April for those who need one. We also have people who do the Woodcock test for those who prefer that one. The fees vary.

Saint Ann Homeschool Support Group

We are a Catholic homeschool support group with member families across northern VA, sponsored by Queen of the Apostles Church in Alexandria, VA. Teaching Our Own Legacy (TOOL)

TOOL is a non-profit, Christian-based home school group established to provide educational opportunities for our home schooled children and to encourage and support families interested in home education through practical resources, activities and friendship.
